In 1973, The school was started for the benefit of the church believer’s children by Pr. R. Thomas and Pr. Mattison. The school was inaugurated by the then MLA Mr. Munuathi. The First Head Mistress of the school was Mrs. Kasthuri Thomas, while the first teacher was Mrs. Jessi Walter and the first treasurer was Mr. Jayaseelan Maghimai Doss.
In 1974, The permanent church Building was constructed by Pr. R Thomas, and was dedicated on April 7, 1974 by Pr. DR Watts and Pr. John Wilmott
In 2001, the Church building needed renovation and extension. A new church building with balcony was constructed by Pr. Johnson Muthuraj, and dedicated on August 5, 2001.
For several years there has been a great need for an English Church in the Tambaram area. Tambaram being home to people from different Countries and States in India, because of the IT hub, MCC and Air Force Base, had several residents who could not understand the worship services in Tamil. For several years members left the Tambaram church after attending English Sabbath School Class conducted at Tambaram Church.

For the benefit of this group of precious souls the Church Board decided to start English Divine Service and the First Service was conducted on 16 April, 2016 at the Tambaram School Prayer Hall. There was a joyful response and within a short time several members started attending the Service. The importance of a Church Building was felt and the need was communicated to the Chennai Metro Section.
In September 2016 the construction started on the first floor of the Existing Tambaram Church. The members – men, women and children came together joyfully to volunteer in the construction with their time, effort, prayers and finances. In fact the pews of the church were assembled by the members. Through the day and sleepless nights the work was carried on. Through storms and sunny days the work went on. It is a glad day on 26 March 2017 that we Dedicate and Inaugurate the Seventh Day Adventist English Church at Tambaram.
At present there are 300+ church members attending both the English and Tamil services.
